Got Bladder Problems?

Right, so I’m a bit stuck on what to write for this whole blog. It would be better to get a theme going with it and to allow it to have some purpose, maybe even a goal. There is hundreds of thousands of blogs on Blogger that consist of happy parents showing off their young children or newly born baby and it makes me wonder, is it safe? I know ‘back in the day’ you would be really proud to show off your kids, same as today you’d be proud, but something at the back of my mind thinks it’s not all that safe. It’s the internet they’re showing the pictures on and really, there is some horrific things on the internet, and I might go even further to say, there is more horrific things on the internet than beautiful things. ‘Back in the day’, you would show off your children to family and friends and your neighbours, now on the internet, it’s basically a supermarket of babies and children to ‘purchase’ and... well you get the idea. Can you please just keep it to yourself or just to your family and friends? I don’t really want to see your children, lovely as they are, but shouldn’t it be a rather ‘private’ affair? I know you’re showing ‘family and friends in Australia but you can use emails. Ok, so maybe I’m being a bit authoritarian and constricting but it just doesn’t seem right to me.

Went off topic there. So if you have any suggestions or themes or posts I could do, please let me know. I know my friend, let’s call her Z for protection of identity,(much like those parents should do) gave me a suggestion on doing a post on going to the loo during class. Here’s her post:

“How about when you ask to go to the loo during class, and the teacher says "why didn't you go before class"? There’s one huge argument there...what if we didn’t need to go before class? If we did, we wouldn’t be asking during class!! :D hehe.”

Well Zara, lets answer your question you’ve put forward. It’s fine to write and write and write on a blog, but it’s the audience that makes the blog. Without audience, you have no blog.

Answer:

I find your theory quite interesting. Indeed if you didn’t need to go before class, you wouldn’t of went but then again, when you were younger, indeed my parents and probably everyone else’s, they told you to go before you set your foot out the door. Maybe the teachers expect for that to still happen before class? If you did need to go before class, yes you would go for obvious reasons. If you needed to suddenly go 10 or 15 minutes into class, then I’m not too sure the question would be ‘valid’ as it were. The kidney releases urine every 15 seconds and overall 2 litres of urine is produced a day, roughly a big bottle of Coke. 180 litres is filtered through the kidneys everyday and the majority is reabsorbed such as minerals, water, and ions.

“The urinary bladder usually holds 300-350ml of urine; a full adult bladder holds about 500mL of urine, 15 times its empty volume. Not all specialists accept these values, some say a urinary bladder can hold ca. 1000 mL, but it is different from person to person.... The desire to urinate usually starts when the bladder reaches around 25% of its working volume” - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bladder

Usually the when going for in a scan in hospital they tell you that they want you to drink 6 to 8 glasses of water 2-4hours prior to have a full bladder. As said, the average for a full bladder is 300-350ml and it’s taken from Wikipedia so it doesn’t apply to everyone nor can it be classed as standard. We already know that around 2 litres of urine is produced every day and every 15 seconds urine is released from the kidneys to the bladder to be stored. If we then do a few calculations to get it near possible an accurate answer:

15 seconds 0.024 ml

60seconds 1.44 ml

60minutes 86.4 ml

3 hours 259.2 ml

24 hours 2073.6 ml

25% of average working volume (700ml(between 500-1L)) = 175ml

(3 hours is between 2-4hours when hospitals require you to drink enough for a full bladder. Take note 175ml is when urge kicks in and it’s all vague and averaged)

This is just based on trial and error with the 15 seconds and how much is produced in that time, but by getting it near to 2litres as possible I suppose it works. If my calculations are wrong, I’m sorry but I got a C in my Maths and I was never ever that good.

So we got the calculations, now let’s apply it to our school time table.

We have lunch from 12:30 to 1:05 and the junior college has lunch from 1:05 to 1:40. Break is at 10:15 to 10:30.

Let’s say 12:45 for senior and 1:20 for junior. 10:20 for break.

So that means 2hours 25minutes for senior and 3 hours for junior. Seeing that seniors are a bit bigger than juniors you would think they would be able to hang on a bit longer if they decide they need to go just before lunch and don’t forget the times are average because I expect they wouldn’t be rushing for the toilet because their bladder would only be on average just above the 25% of the average working volume. Also what must be taken into consideration is the amount that has been drank and at what time and also depends on the size of the person. If a senior did go at break, I wouldn’t class them getting out of class before lunch to be valid unless they have medical reasons. If a senior went at 8am and break is at 10:20 surely they would have that urge and go; same for juniors.

Fact is: If they went or didn’t go before school most people would need to go at 10:20. If they went at 10:20, they wouldn’t need to go until lunch time and if they went at lunch time, they certainly wouldn’t need to go until the end of school. Again, how much they have drank would have to be taken into account.

Oh yea, I won’t even bother going into the other section, i.e. number 2’s...that’s just nasty.

As for me...I can last from 8 till 4 before I need to go and I do drink plenty. Though, I might have repercussions when I’m older...eep.

So moral is, if you need to go, you need to go but the first urge is only 25% of your bladder. You can hang on...unless you have problems.

So there you go Z, I hope I’ve answered your awesome question.

Keep them coming everyone!
